Dual Point Estimation Documentation

Dual Point Estimation is a Jira Cloud integration that helps teams plan more realistically by using two-point range estimates (Low and High bounds) instead of optimistic single-point estimates. This documentation provides step-by-step guides to help you install the app, estimate issues, manage project risk across workspaces, and query your estimation data.

Quick Start

If you are new to the plugin, follow the Installation & Setup Guide to install the app on your Jira Cloud instance in minutes.

Documentation Guides

Getting Started

  • Installation & Setup: Install the app from Atlassian Marketplace and access the Issue Panel and Global Estimates page.
  • Core Concepts & Units: Understand two-point ranges, standard working time units (weeks, days, hours, minutes), and canonical time storage.

Estimating Issues (The Issue View)

Project Workspaces (The Global Page)

  • Workspace Overview & WBS: Navigate the Work Breakdown Structure tree, customize Jira filters, and use keyboard undo.
  • Planning Workspace: View total project scope, monitor aggregate uncertainty, and use the "Find & Fix" workflow for unestimated work.
  • Tracking Workspace: Monitor logged work against estimates with the Project Progress bar and track early-warning risk alerts.
  • Review Workspace: Run sprint retrospectives, evaluate project variance (budget vs. actual cost), and review task estimation accuracy.

Reference & Advanced

  • Calculating Uncertainty: Learn the mathematical formula for uncertainty percentage and how bounds roll up through issue hierarchies.
  • Problem Filters & Hygiene: Filter your backlog using the 4 built-in diagnostic filters: Unestimated, Exceeding High, Approaching High, and Subtasks Estimate Too High.
  • JQL & Entity Properties: Query range estimates directly in Jira JQL using indexed entity properties.
